Gen: comic strip

Greetings,
        Wanted to share a comic strip that had a library theme.  This
was in  Jeff MacNelly's Shoe for Tuesday, Dec. 5th.  This is one of my
favorite cartoon strips, but I'm not sure of the character's names.
I'll assume it's Shoe himself.  Anyway, Shoe sits next to an attractive
lady at the local watering hole.  She has some books next to her.
        He asks, "What do you do?"  She answers, "I'm a librarian".
        "Really?  I'd like to 'check you out'"
        Whereupon the librarian takes one of the books and checks it out
along the side of his face, upsetting his composure and libation in the
process.  Warning:  this is a potential side effect from reading The
Assertive Librarian.

        I want to thank you for the hits on bogus websites.  It was more
than I anticipated and will take a while to sort them out.  The link to
LM_NET archives wasn't working so I decided to post my query.  I'll
collect a group of them and post another hit.
