I really did try to muddle through the copyright law before asking this question, but wasn't sure about my conclusion. I want to show "2001: A Space Odyssey" to a group of Seniors (50 - 100) on a video projector. I plan to buy the video so I can get the widescreen version. There will be no charge for this showing. We will be using the auditorium in a public library. Is it a copyright violation? The answer looks like no since it is one-time only for students and no charge and I will own the video to use for my own purpose. But I just wanted to be sure because on the other hand it is not strictly educational - I'm their class advisor and want them to see it (our band is going to play the opening theme for our processional at graduation and I want them to get a sense of what it's about). Any thoughts? TIA. J’aimé L. Foust, Librarian jfoust@mum.neric.org Queensbury High School Queensbury, NY 12804 “We shouldn’t teach great books; we should teach a love of reading.” B. F.
