Job Opportunity - High School Media Specialist

Needham High School is a 9-12 academic high school of 1200 students and
120 full and part time staff members. The media center facility includes a
library media center, a multimedia computer lab and a television studio.
The school is wired for full internet access in every classroom and
office.  The Needham High School instructional program requires a library
media specialist who implements  a student centered learning program
through leadership, collaboration and instructional expertise.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The library media specialist should have secondary classroom teaching
experience, hold a Masters degree, and a Massachusetts School Library
Media Specialist certificate or be eligible for certification. The library
media specialist works as a teacher and instructional partner, information
provider and program manager.

Teacher
The library media specialist  is an effective instructor of students and
staff.  As an instructional partner, the library media specialist
co-teaches with classroom teachers to integrate literature, information
and technology skills, with curriculum content and learning resources.

The library media specialist helps individual teachers implement
instructional experiences with specific suggestions and assistance to meet
curriculum needs and student learning styles.

As a member of the district media/technology team, the library media
specialist provides formal and informal staff development in information
and technology literacy.

Information Provider
In collaboration with the teaching staff, the library media specialist
reviews, recommends, and purchases appropriate print, non-print and
electronic resources relating to the curriculum. He/She instructs students
and staff in the location, evaluation and ethical use of relevant
information resources. The library media specialist models the effective
use of information resources in consultation and direct teaching with
students and staff.

Program Manager
The library media specialist establishes the student learning environment
and the appropriate use of the library media center and resources. He/She
manages the individual student and class access to the library media
center.

He /She manages the collection (35K) by understanding and implementing a
networked automated circulation/catalog system (e.g. Winnebago and
Marcive). This includes inventory and collection maintenance.

The professional media staff (library media specialist and instructional
technology specialist) defines the work of the secretarial and
paraprofessional staff in the daily management of the
media/technology program and facilities.The professionals plan and manage
the budget collaboratively, matching needs and expenditures to print,
non-print and electronic learning resources.

The Educational Technology Center (K-12 District Office) supports the work
of the media and technology staff (25) in the schools.
