Job Opportunity - Elementary Media Specialist, Part Time (3 days a week)

The John Eliot Elementary School is a K-5 school with 270 students and  25
full or part time staff members. The John Eliot School is networked for
data, video and voice. Full Internet access is available throughout the
school. The media center is a classroom size facility with instructional
and storytelling space. The collection is approximately 8K. The elementary
media program integrates  literature, information and technology skills
with the classroom instructional program. The Educational Technology
Center (K-12 District Office) supports the work of the media and
technology staff (25) in the schools. www.needham.k12.ma.us/MTS
(The John Eliot School is scheduled for a major renovation in ‘02-’03,
which will include a state-of-the-art media center facility.)

Position Responsibilities:The elementary school library media specialist
works as a teacher, information provider and program manager. The
specialist maintains and expands an integrated instructional program with
print and electronic resources by providing school leadership in
curriculum development and thematic projects. The specialist nurtures the
love of children’s literature for students and teachers, works with parent
volunteers and the school technology committee. The specialist will
upgrade and maintain the automated circulation/catalog (Winnebago),
maintain the school media center web page and selected resources,
participate/teach in school and district staff development programs and
administer the school library media and technology budgets to support the
curriculum.

Qualifications: The elementary school library media specialist should have
elementary teaching experience, hold a Masters Degree, and a School
Library Media Specialist Certificate or be eligible for certification.
