Catherine and Thomas are children of a Quaker family in
Pennsylvania.  All around them there have been Indian troubles but
their father has always tried to understand the Indians' side of the
disagreements.  One day they are captured by the Indians on their
way to school.  They eventually get acclimated to the Indian way of
life and Catherine even begins to compare their religion to the
Quakers.  After many months white soldiers recapture them.  Once
back with their family Catherine has trouble adjusting back to the
Quaker way of life.  Her mother spurns her but her father tries to
understand her.  As with other Dear America series, there is a
fictional epilogue (which I disapprove of) at the end and also
historical notes.  I liked this 184 page book because it shows both
sides of life -- the Indian and the white people and also how it
shows how hard it was for the older Catherine to come back to that
way of life -- she ends up never really belonging in either life.
