We are having a problem in our building and wanted to see if anyone here had any suggestions. I hope I can explain this. Our middle school runs an intramural lunch program for 20 minutes each day. Our students go to lunch for 25 mins.and then choose an activity to attend for the next 20 mins. or so. In order to go to an activity, the students are given a pass and must sign in for attendance purposes. Some activities can have only a limited number of students. For example, only 30 passes are given for the computer lab since there are only 30 computers. The teachers running the intramural insist on students having passes to enter the activity (this way students have made their decision during lunch where to go and aren't wasting their 20 mins. standing in hall deciding) and we have to account for all the students during this time for state-mandated attendance purposes. Here is our problem. Our assistant principal began the year making hundreds of passes on paper and laminating them. There are 4 passes to an 8.5x11 piece of paper. The passes are printed with the activity the student has chosen and which lunch he/she has. So we have approximately 350 students who need a pass each of our 3 lunches. The kids take the passes and put them in pockets and roll them up and basically destroy them. At the start of every month, our asst. principal has to make new passes and I laminate them. We are going through paper and laminating film monstrously fast. We would like a system where we could cut down on paper and laminate. There is not enough time for the students to sign the attendance sheet during lunch and give that to the teacher in the activity. Any suggestions? I hope I made this clear. We have 725 students in the building who may choose a different activity each day (that may be part of the problem). This is our first year with this intramural program and it has some bugs (both on the administrative end and on the teacher end). We are just searching for a better way or a better material to make passes from that students can't destroy so quickly. H.
