Our school district is currently revising our web page standards.
Since this is a relatively new type of document, there are a few issues
with which our technology committee are concerned. What I would like is
some input about your district's policies concerning school sponsored web
sites. Specifically, we are interested in how students are identified on
school sponsored web sites. Please answer the following questions so I
may compile the results and report to our technology committee. I truly
appreciate and value your input.
1. In what state is your district?
2. What are the grade levels of students for whom this policy applies?
3. How long have your web page standards been in use?
4. When student pictures appear on a school sponsored web site, how is
the student identified? (first name only, first name and last initial,
    or first and last name)
5. When student work or art appear on a school sponsored web site, how is
the student identified? (first name only, first name and last initial,
    or first and last name)

One thing I do want to mention is that whatever is decided on
how students' names will appear, a parent permission slip will be sent
home. This permission slip will describe the web page standards. The
permission slip must be signed and returned for ANY student information to
appear on the web page.
Once again, thank you for the information on your district's
standards. In the research already done by our technology committee
members, it was discovered that there was not a clear-cut consensus on how
student names are presented on web pages. Our current policy is being
revised because of high school students and teachers who feel that
students in grades 10 through 12 should be allowed to use their entire
names in conjunction with student work, pictures, artwork, awards, etc. on
the school web pages.
I will compile the results of this TARGET and will post a HIT.
Thanks very much!
