Dear Netters This year I tried something with the "Let's not let this happen to the books" talk. I have a Puppet of a dragon. She is a full arm creature with rather Angry Eyes. The set up was about 10 minutes in to my intro talk Erica woke up in the back room and started roaring. I would fetch her with the explanation that I couldn't get a baby sitter and we must have woken her from her nap. I set her up with crayons and paper so she can keep busy while I finish talking to the students. Well, Erica starts coloring on one of her books that is lying on the desk. The kids Of course inform me what she is doing and the skit goes on from there. Erica does several other destructive acts before she has to go back to the office and "her" books are pretty sorry looking . I have K-2 Classes only and I really haven't seen a whole lot of destruction so far this year. They all remember Erica and want her back. I know this isn't for everybody ,but I seem to get good results from it. PS You haven't lived until as a teacher new to the district in one afternoon you have both your principals, the Media Coordinator , and Asst. Superintendent all watching you talking to your hand . Oh well I made it through one evaluation ok . Let's keep thinking good thoughts. Victoria L.
