This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --------------229D64F32BCE2AE716BD638F Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit A colleague of mine is attempting to complete research for her dissertation and is having trouble finding specific volumes of the teacher magazine entitled _Schooldays_. She has received much help from the LMS in our school district as well as educators from other school districts in Texas (before she moved) and Minnesota (now that she is residing in this great state). She has even written the publisher for back issues with disappointing results. I guess I bragged once too often about this wonderful listserv to which I subscribe because I have agreed to see if we can find the issues she needs. I will include the issues she needs first and then I will give a summary of the research she is conducting so you will have a better understanding of why she needs the magazines. I will also include her e-mail address if you would prefer to communicate with her directly. I am thinking she especially needs a copy of the Table of Contents of these missing issues. Schooldays: 1) Sept./Oct., 1989, Vol. 8(?), No. 1 2) Nov./Dec., 1990, Vol. 8, No. 2 3) Feb./March, 1990, Vol. 8, No. 3 4) April/May/June, 1990, Vol. 8, No. 4 5) Sept./Oct., 1990, Vol. 9(?), No. 1 6) April/May/June, 1991, Vol. 10(?), No. 4 7) April/May/June, 1992, Vol. 11(?), No. 4 8) Feb./March, 1993, Vol. 12 (?), No. 3 9) July/Aug., 1996, Vol. 15, No. 5 10) July/Aug., 1999, Vol. 18, No. 5 E-mail address: tjwims@aol.com Summary of the need and importance of this research (which I happen to think effects me as a LMS and one who is in charge of ordering periodicals for teacher use as well as finding ideas from some of these magazines myself.) SUMMARY OF RESEARCH Students of all ages need an informed, balanced view of aging. The purpose of the study is to ascertain whether some of an elementary school teacher's classroom lessons come from teaching magazine sources and to identify and analyze teaching ideas and learning activities about aging which appear in periodicals with the highest circulation. If elementary teachers are reading teaching magazines, and my research indicates this, and the teachers are finding many of their informal curricular ideas for lessons to be used in the classroom, then the periodicals which have the highest circulation figures need to be analyzed for content addressing ideas, concepts, and classroom activities regarding teaching about aging. The study will address the need for deliberate educational intervention to solicit appropriate and relevant aging education curricular ideas for K-6 teachers from other practicing teachers knowledgeable in the field and from aging education experts. It will suggest the need for elementary level teachers to try new ideas and materials in lessons about aging. END OF SUMMARY (The words "aging education" are also referred to as "intergenerational studies" by some.) Thanks in advance for any help and assistance you can give towards the completion of this research. If the results of this query are successful, I will glady post a "see if you can top this" message. Also, if and when she completes the study and it is published, I will gladly give you information about accessing it. With hope and thanks, Marilyn Beaird -- Marilyn M.
