I have two: The first, _A Home for Jessie_, a dog story I read to my sons when they were little and haven't dared read again, because, as I was reading it out loud to them, I sat with a tissue and had to pause repeatedly to sob. Incidentally, they all cried too. Thank goodness it had a happy ending. The other, _The Yearling_ -- from the first time I read this and wept over its ending chapters, I've loved -- it gets me now that I'm older and see its sweet portrait of a very lonely little boy who is so earnest and good-hearted. It's always amazed me how words can touch our hearts so deeply -- how is that? =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
