PERS: Photo query

Dear Wise Ones (or Re-Sourcerer/ess):

My uncle sent me the following query:

" Anyway, I wrote to you in your dual capacity as librarian and computer
maven, asking for advice as to how to find the ownership of the rights to a
nineteenth century photograph of the Aga Khan III, taken when he was
sixteen years old. I want to reproduce it in my book, Around the World with
Mark  Twain, which is scheduled to appear this summer. (The young man met
Mark Twain in Bombay.)

" I saw the photo in a biography of the Aga Khan III, published by The
Cresset Press, London, in 1952. The book contains about 20 photos. Credits
are given for none of them, although the author thanked his subject for
giving him four previously unpublished pictures. The Cresset Press seems no
longer to be in business. I wondered if the former Aga Khan's grandson,
Prince Karim, Aga Khan IV, or more likely his archivist, if he has one,
might know  who owns the rights to the photo, but I haven't a clue as to
where to send a query. But that might not be the best way to proceed at
all. Do you have any advice? "

I have to admit, I'm stumped!  It sounds as though this was a personal
photo given to the author for just this publication, and thus would not
appear in any of the photo archives.  To repeat my uncle's closing: Do you
have any advice?
