Hello to all: The "regionalisms" thread has been a most interesting one. I've had such a wonderful time that I have reread many of the posts! It has made me remember and laugh about how many times I have misunderstood idiomatic expressions, and regionalisms when I was first learning English. The ones I remember the most are, of course, the most embarrassing and less apt for sharing, so I won't. If people who were born in the same country, have different names for the same things, and pronounce words with accents difficult to understand by all, in a language that by its own nature is difficult to learn, imagine what it is like for a foreign born person. It has been great fun in the lighthearted spirit in which is has been shared.
