Several of you responded (thanks!) to my question about how to correctly pronounce Any Rand's name. The following shows the varied responses I received and how many times they occured. Ayn: Rhymes with "mine"/"pine" (1 syllable)...8 Like "Ann"................................................4 "I-an", "ion", "I-in" (2 syllables)..............3 Rand: "Ran" with a silent "d".............................1 Rhymes with "sand".................................2 Many informed me there is an article about her in this month's Biography Magazine and "According to them her first name rhymes with mine. She took this name from a Finnish author. Of course her last name Rand was taken from the name of the typewriter she brought over when she left Russia." One of the most interesting responses came from a librarian whose father actually knew Ayn Rand. She confirms the name rhymes with "mine". Thanks again! Jacque Childress, Librarian Cross Plains Elem.
