I have just joined this listserv and have already had many of my questions answered 
by reading other's questions and answers.  I will be the new librarian at my school 
this fall.  I have been the Language Arts teacher there for several years.  
Tiffani's questions and the replies were very helpful.  Some other questions I have 
that I hope to have help with:  What do you do about students who have lost books 
and have not paid for them?  Are they allowed to check out books the next year? 
Also, how do you respond when they ( and sometimes their parents) are sure they 
turned the book in or else they are sure someone stole the book from them?  Any 
help in how to deal with this will be appreciated.  Thank you!
