I for one would like to encourage new LMT's/librarians to ask all the questions they want. One of the great values of this list is that it is a ready source of information that is often NOT available in 'library classes' or even in the professional literature. IMHO, NOTHING beats 'been there, done that' as a souce of information on those day to day issues that never seem to get discussed in MLS or credential programs. In an ideal world we *should* research before asking, but often there just isn't the time for this. The press of our duties at work just does not allow for this luxury. We all get tasks and questions dumped on us at the last minute, and are expected by our supervisors/employers to respond quickly (like, yesterday!) In a way, I consider posting a question to the list as 'doing my research'. After all, what better reference source than 12,000 working porfessionals? Of course, use the archives....they are a valuable resource; but also remember that things can change, and new ideas happen all the time! A hearty welcome to the profession. Keep the questions coming, and feel free to answer a few, too! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
