Hi again,
I just think we need a simple summary of this topic so far so those who are new to
the list or the
profession can identify what a 'good question' looks like.

1. Practice your own information literacy process. Identify what you need to know,
then work out
what you already know and what more you need to find out. ALL questions are valid
but precision
helps us provide more relevant answers.
2. Tell us what you have done to locate an answer, whether it be searching the
archives or the web
using the terms
"x+ y+ z". That saves us time, and provides an opportunity to suggest different
search words and /
or resources.
3. Preface your request with TARGET in the subject line.
4. If it is appropriate, put the age or grade level of the kids to guide those of
us who do not
know what 'middle school' or 'freshmen' means - this is an international list now.
And if you are
using abbreviations for kids with labels like LDD or Title 1, could you please
indicate what these
mean?
5. Understand there are no 'dumb' or 'no-brainer' (horrible term) questions, and
even for those
experienced professionals, the most basic questions provide an opportunity to
reflect on the
current practice and see if it is still relevant.
6. Acknowledge those who reply. It takes a few seconds to hit 'reply' and type
"thank you" .
That's just good manners.

Hope this clarifies the core issues of Alice's post.

Cheers
Barbara
