I would suggested some general productivity software so that students would actually apply what they are learning and create new products - i.e. spreadsheets where they set up such things as supply budgets for a voyage to the new world or business expenses or the ability to create databases of information that they have gathered over the Internet or through other reference materials. Draw programs where they can illustrate a story and then go to the word processor to summarize the key points of the story. These are skills that students need to work on and the same piece of software can serve multiple subjects.
