I have a futon in my media center as well as colorful pillows (lean-a-pons)
and pads (sit-upons) for the students to use. The pillows are piled on the
floor near a window. Any student who wants one to lean against a bookshelf
or even the circulation desk is welcome to get one (or two!). The
sit-upons are used during storytime, as there is nothing under the carpet
except cement. The students also pile up the sit-upons to lean against
when reading. I also have book character related games and puzzles that
the students can play during "morning club time" or when they have free time.

I tried soft music in the media center, but I could never get it soft
enough. I don't allow students to have food or drink in the media center,
as we are a K-5 school and that age is prone to spilling things and making
a mess on the books.

I have three of Demco's soft sculptures on my walls as well as other
colorful pictures and posters. There are also stuffed book character
animals on the top of the shelves. I also have seasonal displays
(Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.) on the circulation desk.
