Re: alternatives to Harry Potter

I agree with Nancy re Ibbotson's book Which Witch.  I purchased it as a
kind of Potter clone, but it is really a rather unpleasant book.  It is
not the witchcraft per se that I object to, but rather its nasty tone. It
has been sitting on my shelf for a year while I decide whether or not to
put it into my collection, send it to the high school or discard it.
(By the way, the reading level is certainly not high school, but I feel
the way it is written makes it more appropriate for older children.)

By the way, it is not a new book - it was first published in 1979, and I
would guess it has been reissued to take advantage of the current Harry
Potter craze.

I am curious as to what others think of it, especially on a middle school
level - not as a substitute for Harry Potter, but as another book with
witches and wizards.
