OK, I confess:
My middle school library has:
--two couches; albeit usually reserved for the kids =

on Medical Excuse for gym, aka the "couch potatoes."
The couches are near my workstation, so that I can
keep an eye on the kids, and also ask them to help
me whenever necessary. Since that's also where
I'm often working on 'stuff', some of the kids
have discovered the cart near my workstation is
also where the new (print) goodies can be spotted,
and/or materials for an upcoming project they
might be assigned.
--soft jazz (well, maybe not always so soft)
and/or classical music playing. Two discoveries:
1. kids accept the fact that *I* decide what
music will be played, and now some of them
are getting turned on to some of my favorites...
like The Manhattan Transfer !
2. kids understand that "if *I* can't hear
the music, YOU are too loud." And they LIKE
having the music on. Teachers who bring
classes in, however, occasionally ask that the
music be turned off, because they think it =

will distract the kids... from the teacher's
instructions!

However, because we have new carpeting, the
only person allowed to have coffee is ME,
in a spill-proof cup.
Sometimes rank has its privileges.
