Dear LM_Netters:

School is out in 2 weeks so I have stopped circulations for students this
week. The students and I discuss other places they can go to find good books
to read (classroom collections, students' own personal books, bookstores,
garage sales, and the public library). When students mention the public
library, it provides a good segue for me to urge students to get their own
library card and visit their local library. I then read "Tomas and the
Library Lady" by Pat Mora. This story tells the tale of a true event in the
life of Tomas Rivera, a migrant worker who was befriended by a kind librarian
in Iowa and discovered his love of books. This beautifully illustrated
picture book holds the students' interest from start to finish.

Have a wonderful summer everyone!
