Cataloging Big Books

I am a fairly new librarian (2nd Yr.) and I would like to catalog all 250 big
books that we have. I want to barcode and be able to scan them out to
teachers instead of using cards.  My question is what would be the best way
to do this?  and would I use the same format as regular books or how would I
indicate on the marc record that its a big book?  I hope someone can help me
with this. Or maybe someone has a better suggestion. Thanks in advance. You
