Hi all. Thanks to all who took the time to respond. My original post: I have heard that having students write an exam in the classroom and desk that they usually sit in for the class will reduce stress and, as a result, assessment of what a student really knows will be more accurate. Does anyone know where I could find research to back this up? I have also heard that if a teacher puts all handouts for a unit on a certain colour of paper and the test on that colour of paper that students will perform better. Does anyone know where I could find research to support this idea? Responses: You might try an ERIC search, at http://ericir.syr.edu/ I've heard about the first question - our exams are all being given in small rooms now; but I haven't heard about the second one. ______________________ I'm not sure where the research is but when I was taking classes in child development we learned that certain colors have an effect on children and learning. For instants, yellow or orange should be placed in a babies room to have them more alert. With the other thing, children do better in a familiar surrounding. Their room and their desk is their familiar surrounding. Kathy Thomson Teacher-Librarian S.
