I am passing on some of the interesting replies I received in response to
my request for help.

Administrators and teachers just don't understand what is involved in
running a library. (4)

Forget the inventory (3)

Teachers have more work than librarians (1)
Librarians have more work than teachers (1)

You are not alone, you are not alone, you are not alone.

Get paid for working after school and in summer (2) (That won't work here)

Being there for students is all that matters (2)

Would librarians dare go to classrooms to observe whether or not they are
working?

Live with an inaccurate catalog and disorganized collection. (3)

Use business terms with administrators: assets, losses, insurance requirements.

If anyone asks for report, say inventory was not allowed.

Show videos and keep working on library.

My thoughts are not printable.

Do you report time teachers are in the library reading paper, making
personal phone calls, doing e-mail while they should be planning?

When ground beef is achieved by putting a cow through a grinder, those who
define libraries as rooms of books may have a point.

Those who fail their librarians fail themselves.

Yes, read, the shelf list to the students.

Get student help.

Do a better job of selling the responsibilities of a library (3)

Request meeting with administrator and those teachers personally involved.

(My favorite) Hide all the teacher's favorite books and when they come
back next year tell them you can't find them because everything is such a
mess.

Hang in there, sometimes it seems like it is "us" against "them"

Thanks so much for your support. Now back to work while the teachers are
in the lounge planning a special lunch because they have nothing to do the
rest of the week. Here in Mexico, high school teachers have an exam
schedule that runs two weeks after classes end. One or two hours a day is
all that is required of them while librarians still work from 7:00 to 3:30.
Elementary has 4 days without students before leaving for summer vacation.
