THE POSITION: A paraprofessional position - Library Media Specialist - is
available in the Educational Media Center (EMC) of the Instructional
Services Branch.

SALARY: $18.04-$21.75/Hourly (8 hours per day, 10 months per year)

RESPONSIBILITIES. Performs specialized and technical library work related t=
o
acquisition, circulation, reference, and cataloging functions within an
assigned work unit in the Educational Media Center. This job class
coordinates a variety of specialized library tasks and details from the
initiation of a relevant procedure to its completion.

QUALIFICATIONS. KNOWLEDGE OF:
Electronic search strategies and delivery methods;  online databases,
integrated automation systems; computerized data retrieval systems;
educational and library/media center terminology, operations, practices and
procedures including circulation, reference, classification systems and
cataloguing theory; reference sources; safe and proper use of library/media=
,
microcomputer, standard office, and other peripheral equipment; word
processing and database software application programs;

ABILITY TO: Determine proper search strategies; compile and maintain
computer data bases; perform work with speed and accuracy; communicate
effectively in both oral and written form; develop, create, and design
effective promotional materials and displays; establish and maintain
effective operating and circulating procedures; operate office equipment an=
d
audiovisual equipment; prepare, edit, and maintain correspondence,reports,
abstracts, records and files using word processing and database software
application programs; direct, train, and oversee the work of assigned
personnel; make presentations and conduct in-service training on the use of
library/media services.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Generally, any combination of education and
experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying=
.
A typical method of demonstrating these qualifications would be: a
Bachelor=B9s degree with major coursework in library science, education, or a
related field and three years of paraprofessional or technical experience i=
n
a library media center or instructional resource center.
