Several suggested Demco or Highsmith. I already checked Highsmith, and
could not locate the label size I needed. Thanks to everyone for their
suggestions!

Results:

 DEMCO had EXACTLY what I was looking for. (I spent more time looking at
office supply places, thinking they had a better selection of labels!)

(if the link doesn't work, try a search from DEMCO's home page for "laser
spine labels")

========================================

I had a problem finding labels to work on my laser. I called the
Highsmith Supplies service rep. She sent me several packages of samples
close to the size I needed. I was then able to use excel, adjust the size
of the grid and that's the way I make all my labels now.

I saw labels in the Brodart catalog yesterday. I don't know what the
sizes
were, but they were definitely spine labels. I use a children's program
called "Stickershop Plus" to create spine labels. I print them on Avery
labels 5160, I believe. It works fine. I know they aren't the "standard"
spine labels, but they look better than the ones I type on the typewriter
(which I don't have!) and they adhere well.

I've had success in printing spine labels using different size
sheets.>These are left over from the previous media specialist. I use
ClarisWorks
database (any database program will work) and set up a template with
however many spine labels are on the sheet (currently it's 30 - 6 labels
across and 5 down). I figure out the margins as if I were printing on 8.5
by 11 paper and check the test against my labels (making sure what I
printed will fit on my labels). I then put the labels in the manual feed
and center the sheet and then print the labels. I do have to adjust the
template when I get a new set of labels.
=======================================
I've been using small address labels from Avery. I think they're
8167. I do my labels on one line, but you could get up to three
lines on these.
=====================================================
To print barcode labels, I use the regular Avery address labels--the same
one my library management software uses for barcode labels. I think they
are
1"x2 5/8". I print 2 spine labels on each label and cut them in half. I
get
60 labels per sheet that way. I use the spreadsheet module of AppleWorks
to
line them up. I used this system with older versions of ClarisWorks as
well
(3.0 and 4.0). I do cover them with tape to keep them looking nice, but I
was
doing that with the old fabric labels I used to make with the typewriter.
Good luck. :)

=====================================================
I found spine labels for laser printers. They are on sheets of 50, but
they measure 1" by 1 1/2". I set up my own template for them, and I can
print as many as I want at a time. Sometimes I print half a sheet or less,
and then later put the sheet back through the printer a few more times (I
don't always have 50 to print at a time). I don't know which supply house
I got them from, but they are "Z-label" brand, #30209. The box says "bar
code labels," but that is misleading. 5000 labels on 100 sheets.

I am using the Mandarin automation system which prints spine labels. I
ordered 8.5 x 11 sheets from Brodart. Each sheet has 48 labels that are
1
2/3" x 1".  It's catalog # 55 395 005.
=====================================================
I had to search and search to find these. The only place I found them
was
Sagebrush-Winnebago The number for them is 7030.

=====================================================
Try Gaylord's or the Library Store, both have large selections of Spine
Labels on 8.5" x 11" sheets.
