We Methodists do much the same as Catholics. We have an Ash Wednesday
service where we are marked with the burned palm leaves. We follow a 40 day
period of sacrifice, self denial, usually giving up something and donating
that money to the church as a lenten offering. We do a Palm Sunday service
whrere the children wave palm branches in a procession in the church, a
Maundy Thurday service (same as Holy Thursday), a Good Friday Service of
Darkness and Easter Morning services. 12 year olds who have been through
confirnation class are usually confirmed on Easter Sunday. About the only
thing we don't observe is the meatless Fridays during Lent. My sister in
law is Catholic and I haven't compared the two religions in detail, but the
basic elements seem the same.
