Elementary: Questions

I have two questions for the elementary librarians:
1.  Is there a Great Books or Classics series?  I seem to remember reading
that some schools have a program as enrichment using something like this but
can't remember the name and don't know the details.
I'm looking for something for my sixth grade teacher to use.  SHe complains
that by the time she gets the students they've read most of the books in the
school and she wants something fresh.

2.  Someone wrote some time ago about a cute series of books for 3rd graders
with a main character named Zack or something like that.  She said that
someone had complained because one of the titles was about an out of body
experience.  Could you fill me in on the name of the series?

If you could email me directly, I'd appreciate it.  I get behind reading LM
NET sometimes during hte school year.
