I know very little about barcode scanners. We started automating our K-12 library five years ago. We orginally were using Follett CIRC/CAT. We purchased a barcode scanner (hand held). At the time we had an old 286 (if not older) computer and were told that we would need a game card for the scanner to work. The game card was installed, but we never got the scanner to work. Two years ago we converted to Winnebago Spectrum and in the deal got a new scanner. The Winnebago scanner is the same shape and size as the Follett, but the Winnebago scanner has a different number of pins at the connector. The Winnebago came with a "Y" cable that plugs into the keyboard port and supports the keyboard and the scanner. We have finished automating a K-8 school in the district and would like to not have to purchase a new scanner, but would like to find a way to utilize the Follett scanner. The Follett scanner has the following numbers on the cord (F01SH4120L FC-936-00253). If anyone has any experience that would be helpful, please let me know. I would be glad to post a HIT if others are in need of the information.
