Cormier, Robert._The bumblebee flies anyway_,1983 [0-440-90871-X] Wow, what a head-trip this book is! Several young people with terminal conditions are in an experimental clinic. There they receive experimental treatments or experiments before they die. They are not allowed contact with the outside world but one is extremely rich and his mother provides grants to the institution so his twin sister can visit. They won't let her visit her brother so she sees one of the other guys daily. In the meantime they steal a model car from a junk yard next door piece by piece and reassemble it in the attic. This 241 page book is an extremely powerful tale dealing with how people face death and a sideline of the relationship between twins along with the ethics of experimental medicine. I read it because of some recent discussion about it -- maybe there is a movie about it made or being made. Every HS library should have this book -- it is appropriate for upper middle school kids also. *************** Frederick Muller Halsted Middle School Library 59 Halsted Street Newton, NJ 07860 voice (973) 383-7440 ext 228 FAX (973) 383-7432 My book reviews are compiled at: http://www.halsted.org/br.htm My personal web site is: http://users.tellurian.net/fmuller =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
