Hi, I'm going to sound like an old fuddy-duddy here but my question after reading the posts on this topic is WHEN DID ALL THIS STUFF START? Someone in a posting made the comment that the end of the school year was supposed to be "fun." SINCE WHEN???? After school hours, maybe, but not during the school day. It's a school, not an amusement park. It's not just the water guns either, it's the attire and shenanigans at graduations which USED to be solemn occasions, and what I call the lack of creativity (or just plain laziness) of teachers at the end of the year. The teachers I had (back in the Cretaceous period I think that was) didn't have videos to show all day the last week of school (they don't care when I tell them they may be in violation of copyright/fair use) and they managed to keep us "working" right up to the end with "threats" that "I can still change your grade." The same was true when I started teaching (the Middle Ages). I was "out of education" during the '70s and early '80s. Is that when we "lost control?" Or had it taken from us? Forgive me for "venting."
