Canadian librarians: alternatives to CPI

Dear Canadian librarians:

I just got my bill for the print version of Canadian Periodical Index:
$495 US, costing me over $800. This would be a major chunk of my small budget.

Are there any alternatives? I will be checking out CPIQ and ProQuest
(which might work if I cancelled all my print subscriptions :( ).

I would welcome your comments on other products keeping in mind Canadian
content and price.
