Any way you can find out? I don't know anything about MAC's but I do know
that cable modems are essentially what is called a "shared node". This
means that the more people in your community (not just at the school) that
are actively using their cable modem the slower everyone's connection is.
This might explain why it slows down in the afternoon.

If you have a dedicated T1...congratulations. This should be plenty of
bandwidth and this is not the problem. But you may have a fractional T1
which is not nearly as fast.

Are there other labs/computers in the school that are used more in the
afternoon? On a fractional T1 you would start "bogging down" if the music
teacher decides to play some streaming audio to her afternoon classes.

The 15 computers that just plain stop might be because you have a bad
hub/switch or you may have some software that has reached/exceeded the
number of licenses/concurrent sessions that have been purchased for it.
Does this occur with the same computers or can you close one that is working
and then get another that did not work to work?

As you can tell there are many possibilities. Do you have anyone at your
school/district/county that is paid to fix these kind of problems? If so, I
would contact them.
