Hello! I've gotten quite a number of reponses to my question about Opposing Viewpoints. As I predicted, the response was overwhelmingly positive. The highlights were for their use for 11-12 graders' debates and term papers. The series was praised for showing all sides of the issue and encouraging critical thinking. The concerns came mainly in the books' reading level (best for 9-12 if not 11-12), that they were over the heads of younger students. On the flipside of that was one comment that their sources (articles from Time magazine, etc) were not as academic as one might hope. The junior series did not get as much in the way of praise, some were happy with them, but others did not think they were of the same quality. We put in an order for many books from the series this afternoon, it was nice to be able to show the principal some praise from other librarians on the series in order to justify the large chunk of our budget that we will be spending on this series!
