Several requested a hit on the response I received for lessons about
evaluating web sites.
This is what I received. The first one is what I used. I developed a ten
point check list
that they assigned a + or - depending on whether the site did/did not
fulfill the
requirement. We evaluated a bogus web-site on the failing velcro crops in
California. All the students believed it until we looked up another site on
Velcro. It worked really well! Thanks for all your help.

From my book, FLIP it! Information Skills Strategies for Student
Researchers:
EVALUATING A WEBPAGE: Just as a webpage is a non-linear presentation, so
too is the process of evaluation. Specific criteria have been grouped into
the four strands
of FLIP only as an organizational schema; during the actual evaluation
process, many of
the considerations will automatically overlap.

FOCUS: why? who?
LINKS: how?
INFORMATION: what?
PRESENTATION: wow?

When I teach this, I try to keep it simple. APAC (Authority, Perspective
OR Point-of-View, Accuracy, and Currency). There are other elements but I
feel these are the most important for judging the information found on the
website rather than the "look" of the site which I would emphasize in a
class teaching web design.
