elem. picture book

Hello Colleagues,
        A parent has asked me to find out the title of a picture book she
remembers from her childhood. All she remembers is that the drawings were
simple line drawings in reds, blacks and yellows, the story includes
duchesses and bread or cake dough. She remembers that it was funny. It was
not nursery rhymes. Any clues?
