Hi Folks,
In addition to throwing out outdated expensive materials, I also have the
pleasure of watching a brand new library for upper school being built from
the ground up. This is my first year here, so I was not in on the original
plans. However, now that walls are up and roof is on, I am being asked about
little things.

Anyway, when I interviewed for this job, I knew there was the possibility
that I could move over to the US library upon completion. Now the time has
come for me to make a decision and I am really in a dillema. I feel
comfortable with the K-5 students because that is what I know. However, the
new library will allow me to work with a new set of students, grow as a
professinal librarian and I get to have say so in how the library is to be
set up and run from day one. But I am scared to death that I might make an
expensive mistake. I probably will never have this opportunity again. I know
that the next few months will be rough once the building is complete and the
dust settles and all of the headaches that go along with a new library will
come out.

My question to my colleagues is do I take the challenge and slide over to the
new library or do I stay put and just assist a new US librarian when the time
comes and stay where I am comfortable? I really would appreciate opinions
from librarians who have overseen expansions at their school as well as
librarians who have worked with all grade levels.

I am the same librarian who lost my contract at a public school 2 years ago,
because of low math scores on the Praxis I. Now, I am having the time of my
life in an independent school with the possiblity of an even more amazing
challenge. Who knew??

Thanks again,
Camille Atkins
