Dear Colleagues; My Principal has just notified me that I need to conduct an audit on the total value of the library print collection. My school is in its second year of renovation. The administration has decided that it needs an audit of the total physical value of the high school. Professionals are coming in to do this but not the LMCs print and non print collection. Of course, I need to have this done by Nov. 28. My question is not so much the inventory numbers but how do I attach a value to books? I have thought of using the last three to four years of P.O.s including this year's. What dollar value do I attach to hardcover books that are more than 5 years old? What dollar value do I attach to paperbacks that are over 5 years old? Also, what value do I access reference materials like encyclopedias that are more than three years old? Is there a special formula that can be used. T.I.A. Maureen D.
