Target: multicultural books

I have a teacher who is looking for high quality (ALA notables, etc.)
picture books or easy readers for multicultural studies for 1-3rd grade.
Titles such as the Count Your Way series, A Coconut Kind of Day, Not so
fast, Songololo, Patricia Polacco type books, etc.  We need main characters
who are of diverse ethnic backgrounds or are set in other countries or
cultures.  Fiction and nonfiction are acceptable.  Any suggestions will be
greatly welcomed.  I will post a hit!  Thanks,
