Thanks to Sue, Linda, Blair, Maureen, Cecily, Chris, Jennifer, Jane,Lyn,
Jan, and MS Preisner for taking their time to respond to my plea for
suggestions. *S* Many expressed an interest in a hit, so here is the
info I received:

  1. The site which was suggested by many and one which helped me the
most was....http://www.childrensbookguild.org/

> 2. David Wisniewski --Caldecott winner for Golem. He

> the book. He is not cheap but oh so worth it.

  5. Since you live near Baltimore have you had Kevin O'Malley? He is
very flexible with time, incredibly energetic and such an inspirational and fun
author to have. My teachers and kids are still talking about how wonderful
his visit was. he can be reached by a web site- I don't have the information
here at home but if you search his name you will make a hit. He is so worth
it and like I said, he will be very hard to beat this year.

  6. Mary Downing Hahn and David Wiesnewski both do author visits for
schools. I did not schedule them myself so I'm afraid I can't give much
help there, but their publishers can help.

  7. Have you tried asking the children's librarians at your local public
library? I believe they may have some listing of local authors perhaps put
out by Maryland State Library. They may also have invited local authors and
know how much they charge per visit. You might even cooperate on a joint
  visit and share some costs.

  8. There is an organization called the Society For Children's Book Writers and
Illustrators. They are an excellent organization (all the great authors are
members). The have local chapters all over! Perhaps try your local chapter!
Here is their web address: http://www.scbwi.org/

> HarperCollins for this year. Two outstanding elementary authors who

> Putnam is another site that lists authors and fees, etc.
