Fellow librarians--This is not strictly on the topic of school libraries, but more specific to US public schools in general. Each year, our entire staff is required to attend a presentation we call "Right to Know training". We are told it is required annually. I've searched OSHA for specifics on how the Haz-Com (Hazard Communication Standard)training requirements are applied to the average classroom teacher in the average public HS in the US but have not been successful. For this training sessions, we are asked for ("required to give") our SSN for as verification of attendance. I vigorously object to this, again with no success. My questions are these: How are US schools handling Haz-Com training (required or voluntary; annual or upon employment)? Where can I find specific regulations/laws/guidelines which apply to Haz-Com training for school employees? Does this trainer have ANY BUSINESS "requiring" our SSN? Thanks for the input.
