Hello folks, I wanted to share several magazine articles that could be of use to many of you. "Higher Education" by Gary Smith Sports Illustrated. March 5, 2001 This is about Perry Reese, Jr., a black man who became the basketball coach at a high school in Berlin, Ohio, in the heart of Amish country. He overcame a lot of prejudice to build an excellent basketball team and build community spirit. His death from a brain tumor last year was a severe loss. "You Have a Choice" by Erin Zimring. Teen. April, 2001 Six girls age 19-20 reveal when they first had sex, why they did it and their advice. One girl, however, is still a virgin. Except for one girl, who is a bit more liberal minded, the advice is "Wait, don't do it, it's not worth it." "Fuzzy Math is . . ." Mad Magazine April (?), 2001 Gives examples such as this: You charge $1,000 stereo and pay $20 a month without realizing that you will eventually pay $1,750. Here's another: you spend $2 in gas to go to a supermarket across town to take advantage of a 50 cent coupon for frozen peas. This could be a way of teaching consumer education.
