ADM: Hoodwinked, Hornswaggled, Rookie-Dood

Dear LM_NETter's:

We were certainly duped by Calico Lion, its salespeople, its tech
support, and its president.
We installed Calico Lion in our secondary library. We had Calico convert
the records. We installed Calico Lion three years later in our
elementary library.  We had Calico convert the records.
Then the trouble started.  Calico lost one section of the shelf-list
cards.  They did not get the records for that section converted and we
could not convert them, because we had no cards.
The circulation program in the elementary was unstable; catalog records
were inaccurate; tech support was rude, never prompt; they would not
send anyone to the school to work out the kinks. They misinformed us
about the number of digits in our barcodes, thus causing us to redo 3000
records; parts of the program we could never use or print from; barcodes
were jimmy-rigged so that they would only work with the scanner that
Calico sold.
Now we must spend $1000 to get a scanner that will scan both Calico
records and company provided records.
Buyer beware.
