Colleagues:

I'm the academic bowl coach here, and I suspect that many of you also wear
that hat. Our buzzer set is nearly worn out, and the principal has given me
permission to replace it. What's your favorite system? What features do you
absolutely have to have?

Our current system has buttons for up to five players per side. The control
box is small, with just LEDs to indicate player. This makes for a very
compact system, but it isn't all that obvious to everyone who buzzed in
(although the moderator can easily see). Other schools in the area have
sets with large bars with red and blue lights on them. These make it very
easy to see who buzzed first, but take up a lot of space.

One area of concern that I have is the wires. Our current set uses very
fine wires, probably 24 AWG or smaller, and I suspect that such fine wires
are breaking. Even though the electrical system doesn't need heavier
wiring, just the constant bending seems to me to warrant at least 16AWG.

I'll post a HIT if desired.
