Molly and LM_Netters:
National Geographic has a complete index of ALL NG publications at:
http://www.nationalgeographic.com/publications/index.html

Good news, it's FREE!

It includes indexing to the NG Magazine back to 1888.
Here is a full list of what it covers.
http://www.nationalgeographic.com/publications/about.html

This is an excellent example of an Invisible Web database.
The material in it can not be accessed via a general search tool like
AltaVista, Excite, Google, etc.

Now, the answer to your query.
The article is from the Feb. 2001 issue.
Pages: 52-61
You and your student can find an online version of the story at:
http://www.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/0102/feature3/index.html

cheers,
gary
