(Joanne's objection to limiting secondary library aides to the junior year: "I'm sure glad the late Mike Printz didn't follow rule number 2. Otherwise my daughter might never have turned on to reading. She was a senior the year she worked in his high school library and Mike thought she was a great worker. ") Joanne..."the rest of the story" ... actually, I don't think this really limits my students, considering that in our school all aides are required to be seniors...I have requested and received permission to have juniors. In reality, the result of my special request is that both juniors and seniors may be library aides. I just almost always give preference to the juniors, unless there are other extenuating circumstances. Now what really limits library aides, is that we have gone from the 7 period day to the 4 period day. Therefore the opportunty to have aides is reduced from 7 to 4. AND this year I am a half time art teacher. So I only have aides the 2 periods I am in the library. And I even made an exception there, because I had a senior this semester that was aide a previous semester...therefore, she was already trained. I knew her to be completely self-directed...therefore, I made an exception and she is the student aide for 3rd period...which is the period lunch shifts are in....This second sememster an adult aide was hired just for the afternoons in the library...3rd & 4th period, so she monitors her. So in my circumstances, limiting it to juniors, actually increases students' chances of being an aide, because in actually this gives a student the chance to be an aide in their junior year AND their senior year...they just have to work harder to convince me when they are seniors. A lot harder. Ann On Sat, 28 Apr 2001, Joanne Proctor wrote: > I'm sure glad the late Mike Printz didn't follow rule number 2. Otherwise > my daughter might never have turned on to reading.
