I'm the upper school librarian at a school that's had the IB for eight years. In reply to the several inquiries about special training or requirements for librarians in IB schools, there are none. I do what all of you do--support the curriculum. The history courses, for example, are heavy on non-Western civilizations and within these tend to emphasize cultural aspects more than is usual. There's also a rather extensive fine-arts requirement which ties in with their stress on culture. (The IB searches out linkages among various subject areas.) But all you need are the books and the knowledge of how to use them. There are, however, lots of IB conferences going on through the year at various locations worldwide, a few specifically targeted at media specialists. These are sometimes valuable; sometimes not. (Our libary in conjunction with the technology department and the United Nations School hosted one this past March.) Try to talk your headmaster into sending you the next time they have one on the C=F4te d'Azur. Don't sweat it; you'll do fine.
