Has anyone tried building a web site at http://www.tripod.com ? First, let me say clearly that they have some lovely samples of web sites for both school and personal use. The look of the coordinated graphics and the colors are very professional. They show samples and you can adapt the organization, pictures, layout, everything -- to your own needs. The "pencil" layout for schools is nicely done and shows the complete layout for a sample school. You do not have to have any web building software on your computer, it is all on their server. Just point, choose, and click. You can also upload any graphics files from your computer to theirs using point/click. No special software is needed. The downside of this is just like Hotmail, it is all on their server and can be slower when they are busy. (Naturally, there are banner ads, but I have not seen any yet that are offensive; nothing of the "make new friends" variety.) Second, just this one teeny tiny little thing. THE PROBLEM: Everything that I enter looks like a paragraph! Even the calendar!! The samples show different mini layouts with double spacing and bullets/columns. It must be possible. I have looked everywhere and can't find anything that mentions this problem. It must be totally obvious, but I don't see the answer. The page headings, division headings -- no problem! It's the layout on the little mini pages within a page!! The calendar looks like a paragraph when I view the page. I tried changing the information in a sample, just substituting my words and it looks fine on the input screen. When I switched to view the page -- it's gone "paragraph" again! Do I have to walk this road alone? Have anyone on LM_NET been here before me?? It's the teachable moment here. (Naturally, I sent a message to the help desk, but this is a free service and my expectation is to receive a bit of boilerplate at some future date.) Techie info: Using an iBook (192 RAM) with OS9 and I tried connecting through Internet Explorer and Netscape. Same results with both browsers. Any responses with suggestions, would be greatly appreciated. (It's probably too late to suggest that I just forget it; I think that I'm truly hooked on the idea adding just one more meaningful site to the WWW.) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Any help, information, comments, potential electronic potholes, philosophic thoughts, recommendations of a superior site builder, whatever -- will be compiled into a HIT (unless omission requested by sender).
