I think what you might be looking for is the tradition of 'suttee' (Hindi: 'good woman'), which is Hindu, not Viking. The wife of the dead leader, warrior, or royal was expected to throw herself on the funeral pyre. If she resisted, she was siezed and thrown on. Suttee is officially discouraged by India today, and the practice has largely died out, even in remote areas. Vikings often burned their dead, but the concept of the wife also being killed was rare. you might try the Viking Answer Lady website (http://www.vikinganswerlady.org/) for more information on Viking funeral customs.
