ATTENTION OHIO SCHOOL LIBRARIANS: YOUR URGENT HELP IS NEEDED!
=20
This year's Labor, Health and Human Services and Education Appropriations =
bill is now in conference. =20
=20
In the Senate bill there is a line item of $25 million for school library =
resources. There is no such line item in the House bill. Conferees have =
been waiting to finish their bill until the large education bill conference=
is concluded, but we understand they are now planning to report their =
bill without waiting for the conclusion of ESEA. We also understand that =
the Chairman of the House Subcommittee, Ralph Regula R-OH) is unwilling to =
agree to the $25 million for school libraries. Please contact his local =
office in Canton (330-489-4414) or fax messages to his DC office (202-225-3=
059) with illustrations of the importance of specific funds for school =
library resources. We know Ohio school libraries can use additional =
specific library resources. Please explain to Mr. Regula how important =
this is, and thank you in advance for your help. We expect action to take =
place on the legislation within the next few days. =20
=20
Call Mary Costabile at 202-628-8410, ALA Washington Office for further =
info. Please copy us with your fax 202-628-8419.
